If a skip is to be placed on a public highway then by law, a skip permit is required. The skip permit is issued by the local authority in which you live and each local authority has different rules, time limits and fees.

- £36 for first week, £45 per week thereafter
- For days 1-5, £40 per day
- Day 6 to 42, £50 per day
- Day 43 onwards, £80 per day
Slough Borough Council
Permits only issued to skip hire companies who are registered with the council. Skip permits are issued for 14 days, renewals can be requested for a further 7 days.
Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead
Permits can only be granted to a skip hire company that is registered with the council.
Buckinghamshire County Council
Permits cost £50 for 28 days, and £25 for a renewal. A cancellation fee of £25 is payable.
Surrey County Council
Permits for a period of up to 4 weeks can only be granted to a skip hire company that is registered with the council.
